Easter Lillian

Skirt: Sheridan French Lillian // Shirt: J.Crew Perfect-fit tee // Flippy Floppies: Havaianas // Ring: gifted Kendra Scott Jolie // Bracelets: Stella & Dot Renegade, David Yurman, C.Jane (similar here) // Nails: OPI 'Charged Up Cherry'

While I was in blue bonnet country, I took advantage of the beautiful scenery to snap some outfit pics. This pink palm print skirt is my latest Sheridan French acquisition. Sheridan wore it at the fan photo shoot and I immediately fell for the bright print and high waist. I works just as easily for road trips to weddings (as seen here) as to hosting dinner or poolside cocktails. I wore it with a J.Crew tee but looking forward to pairing it with the Isla top (wait listed)!

Spring Trends With Shoshanna

A couple weeks ago, I went to "Breakfast at Tootsies" for muffins, mimosas, and a Spring fashion presentation. The top trends presented included lace, geometric patterns, and florals. As I was checking out Shoshanna's new arrivals, I realized she hit every trend. No surprise there, check it out!

Pin-spiration

Source: style-n-naina.com via Lauren on Pinterest
With the surge in popularity of bib necklaces and costume jewelry thanks to BaubleBar and the likes, my jewelry collection exploded. Necklaces were scattered across my dresser and I could hardly close my jewelry box. I'd love to find an antique mannequin to display my prettier pieces. Until then, I needed a quick fix. I turned to Pinterest and came across this picture with bracelets stored in an apothecary jar. Genius!

Necklaces: J.Crew Factory Crystal Venus Flytrap // BaubleBar Flame Duo // Anthropologie Lily Mineral // Forever 21 Pearls // Kenneth Jay Lane Wood Bead // J.Crew Bubble // Banana Republic

This actually solved two problems. I have a set of apothecary jars I bought at Williams-Sonoma with wedding gift cards. I used one to display pretty soaps in the bathroom. The other two have been wasting away in the guest room. I grabbed the squatty one and carefully layered my necklaces. The result is pretty and functional. Hopefully, it won't turn into a giant tangled mess!

Blue Bonnet Country

Me: Rebecca Taylor (old, similar here), Mary Nichols Handbags (on sale!), Jimmy Choo, Forever 21 // Sydney: Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent, Lee Angel both via Rent The Runway // Lindsey: J.Crew (similar here), Anthropologie

This weekend I headed to Chappell Hill, Texas for a sorority sister's wedding. A few of us decided to leave the husbands at home and have a girls weekend. We stayed in the darling guest house of my friend's aunt. The property is so charming! There are four buildings on the property - main house, mother's house, guest house, barn (the garage) - and a pool! We had a great time catching up and enjoying the view over several glasses bottles of wine.

Mom's Coffee Cake

Growing up my mom always made a coffee cake on Easter Sunday. It was a neighborhood favorite. Sunday, we celebrated St. Patrick's Day with family brunch (my in-laws and sister were both in town).  I served mimosas, fruit with poppyseed dressing, quiche, and coffee cake, of course!

Mom's Coffee Cake

3 cans of biscuits (I used Pillsbury Homestyle)
1-1/4  cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1  cup butter
1 cup pecans

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cut biscuits into fourths. Melt sugar, cinnamon, and butter over medium heat. Layer half of the biscuits in a bundt pan. Add half of the sauce and half of the pecans. Repeat with remaining biscuits, sauce, and pecans. Bake for 45 minutes. Let cool in pan 5 minutes before turning out. Serves 12.

Life's A Beach: Julie Bortnick

I'm excited to have Julie Bortnick on the blog today! Julie and I met last Fall at a Houston bloggers brunch. Julie is a freelance writer and the blogger behind From Prosecco To Plaid.

"Oh Cabana Boy! Bring me a...."
A cocktail! Actually, I usually just drink white wine, so chardonnay, please!!

What's in your beach bag?
Aside from the essentials (wallet, keys, phone, gum), in my bag you will always find Purell (I can't eat a meal without using it first), NARS sheer lipstick, a journal for jotting down notes and ideas, business cards, multiple pencils (I hate writing with pens), all sorts of snacks, and way too many receipts (I'm definitely a receipt hoarder).

One piece or two?
Two! I'm loving some of the Melissa Odabash ones at the moment.

Sand in your suit? What's your biggest fashion faux pas/pet peeve?
Women that wear the wrong bras!! The wrong bra makes whatever you're wearing look awful. The right bra will make all the difference in your outfit.

Who's sitting under your umbrella?
Skylar Astin (don't tell my boyfriend)!

After fun in the sun, what are your go-to beauty products?
If I get a little burnt (I try not to!), I'll put on aloe and then always Jergens lotion (I've been using their original scent for as long as I can remember) on my body, and Trish McEvoy Beauty Booster Cream for my face.

Be sure to check out Julie's blog and Facebook page for the latest in lifestyle and fashion!

P.S. You're Invited!

In the Bag

Last Fall, I shared what my friend and purse designer Mary Patton keeps in her bag. I thought it was time for me to share what's in mine!

My love worn Mary Nichols Handbag. Isn't this Robin's egg blue beautiful?! Makes it the perfect Spring bag! Similar style here, similar color here

The Essentials

Jon Hart Cosmetic Bag - The clear pouch makes it easy to grab what I need and makes going thru airport security a breeze.

Starbucks Coffee Sleeve - Makes my latte feel so glam! It's the little things, right?

Kate Spade iPhone Cover - Dropped a few too many times! It might be time for the stripe version.

Ray-Ban Wayfarers  - A classic pair of sunnies.

J.Crew Polka Dot Pouch - I got this in a gift exchange over Christmas and have been using it as my wallet ever since.

Design Darling Weekly Planner & Le Pens - My key to staying organized!

Make-Up Must Haves

LipSmart - The best thing for chapped lips!

Facade - For touch ups: powder & brush, lip liner in Vanity, lipstick in Blossom, Paul & Joe lipstick

What you didn't see? Aspirin, bobby pins, Emergen-C, collapsible hairbrush, hand lotion, rubberbands, 2 more lipsticks, and 4 lip glosses!

It's Not Easy Being Green

My sister and her kids came in town this week for the end of Spring Break. On Sunday, we celebrated St. Patrick's Day with a family brunch before they headed home. The dress code was obviously green!

Me: J.Crew Factory layering tee // J.Brand jeans (similar here) // J.Crew wedges (old, love these) // Necklace: gifted Kendra Scott Noleen

How did you style your green for St. Patrick's Day?

Jalapeno Cheddar Crackers

Last weekend, when we had this dinner party, I served Ina Garten's jalapeno cheddar crackers. Since we had a huge (and labor intensive) meal planned, I didn't want our guests to fill up on appetizers. These buttery crackers were the perfect savory bite to hold us over. Bon Appetit!

Jalapeno Cheddar Crackers
Barefoot Contessa Foolproof: Recipes You Can Trust

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/8 teaspoon baking powder
14 tablespoons (13/4 sticks) cold unsalted butter, 1/2-inch-diced
5 ounces extra-sharp white cheddar, grated
1 tablespoon minced seeded jalapeno pepper*
1/4 teaspoon chipotle chili powder*
3 tablespoons ice water
1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon milk, for egg wash (I didn't have milk so omitted)
Fleur de sel or sea salt

*Mine turned out a little bland so I recommend doubling the jalapeno and chipotle chili powder

Place the flour, kosher salt, and baking powder in a food processor with steel blade and pulse to mix. Add the butter and pulse until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add the cheddar, jalapeno, and chipotle chili powder and pulse again. With the food processor running, add the ice water. Continue pulsing until the mixture begins to form a ball. Dump the dough onto a floured board a roll into a 14-inch log. Wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at 1 hour.

When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Line a sheet with parchment paper.

Cut the dough in 3/8-inch-thick (I did not cut mine thin enough!) slices. Place the crackers on the prepared sheet pan (leave plenty of space in between), brush with the egg wash, and sprinkle with the Fleur de sel (I used sea salt). Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until golden brown. Serve warm or at room temperature.

To The Max

I absolutely L.O.V.E this maxi dress - the silk tribal print, the criss cross straps, the wide green border! Maxi dresses are Spring/Summer wardrobe staples. Throw one on to run errands or add an armful of bangles and statement earrings for cocktails.

Dress: Ann Taylor Loft (old) // Earrings: Target (old, similar Stella & Dot) // Rattan Clutch: Vintage (similar  Tory Burch) // Necklace: Jane Hollinger (in silver) // Bangles: Cost Plus World Market, Banana Republic (similar ASOS) // Nails: OPI "Charged Up Cherry"

Spring Has Sprung

Remember my busy weekend? Well add an impromptu dinner party to the list! Saturday night we had friends over for a true Southern meal: fried chicken, macaroni & cheese, and green beans! It was the perfect excuse to buy flowers and break out the Williams-Sonoma Spring tablecloth my mom gave me at Christmas.

I played up the subtle butterfly print by adding two butterflies to the centerpiece. The Waterford butterfly (similar here) was my bridesmaid gift from my sister and the Swarovski one was an engagement present. My grandmother's silver pitcher served as a vase.

I mixed our everyday Juliska Berry & Thread plates and Isabella wine glasses with our wedding silver. The silver was passed down from my grandmother and is monogrammed LMS.  Amazingly, we have the same initials!

This table top may have been a bit too feminine for our couple's dinner but it is perfectly fitting for Easter brunch (Did you know the butterfly is a symbol of resurrection?) or girls lunch!

Sunday Swim

While Scott & I no longer have the luxury of Spring Break, we do have a couple beach trips planned this summer. I've always been a bikini girl, but lately I've been considering the maillot. Contrary to popular belief, I think a one piece can be just as sexy as two!

Pump Up The Jam

In honor of Spring Break, I asked my friend Chanel Dror to put together a playlist of road trippin', dance party poppin' songs. Even if your Spring Break days are long gone, these songs will transport you from the office to the dance floor in no time. Warning: #7 has been playing in my head on repeat..."I don't care, I love it!"

1. Alive, Krewella
2. Love Like This (Viceroy Remix), Bixel Boys
3. Next Stop, Bleached
4. Losing You, Solange
5. Sweet Nothing, Calvin Harris ft. Florence Welch
6. White Walls, Macklemore
7. I Love It, Icona Pop
8. Forever, Haim
9. Cake, Toro y Moi
10. You (Ha Ha Ha), Charli XCX

Chanel and I met earlier this year at Alt Summit. She is the Assistant Editor of popular lifestyle blog, Camille Styles. Not unlike her famous namesake, Chanel is happiest expressing her creativity in fashion & style, and admits that music is her life's biggest love (so much so, that she has an original single!) From interiors to daily outfitting, Chanel loves incorporating her personal style into everything she does.

Get It Done

Rifle Paper Co. Notepad

I'm taking a cue from this adorable notepad and tackling my to-do list this weekend! On tap? In addition to the usual laundry and grocery store run, I'm attending a charity ball after party, finalizing a closet design, switching out my Winter for Spring clothes, mailing birthday presents, and taking some outfit pictures. (I'm collaborating with two of my favorite Houston fashion bloggers on a new style series, stay tuned!) Sunday night we are going to see Ryan Bingham play at the House of Blues. It will be the perfect end to a busy weekend!

How do you stay organized? Any to-do list tackling tips?

Life's A Beach: Sheridan French

If you've been following Sunday Beach, then you already know I'm a huge fan of Sheridan French (Exhibit A and B). Did you catch her on the cover of Matchbook Mag?? This month's issue peeks inside her Fort Worth home where we find it's just as vibrant as her clothing line. Sheridan's bright bohemian collection of dresses, tunics, and more makes you yearn for white sand beaches and boat drinks...which makes Sheridan the perfect beach babe to kick off this series!

Carmella Swim Dress in Elephant

"Oh Cabana Boy! Bring me a...."
Tequila shot! Don Julio Anejo, por favor.

What's in your beach bag?
Faux answer: Prada sunglasses, lip balm, iPhone with waterproof cover
Real answer: Squished diapers, half-eaten Larabars, and receipts from 2003

One piece or two?
Itsy bitsy teenie weenie bikini!

Sand in your suit? What's your biggest fashion faux pas/pet peeve?
Not being true to yourself or trying too hard. It always shows! That, and lipstick on the teeth. It happens to all of us, but is never any less embarrassing.

Who's sitting under your umbrella?
Abraham Lincoln, and it would be nice to meet my grandparents.

After fun in the sun, what are your go-to beauty products?
Coconut oil slathered head to toe. It's a natural sunscreen and also helps alleviate any burning!

Flower Power

I'm digging the floral trend for Spring. Florals are just so bright and happy. But let's be honest, not everyone wants to be covered in a field of flowers. You don't have to cover your ahem assets in a giant flower print. Here are my picks to keep you looking good and on trend!

Flower Power

Row 1: Madewell Baseball Cap (only $24!) // J.Crew Scarf // Matthew Williamson Sunglasses (also in Jade)
Row 2: Madewell Sidewalk Skimmers // Jack Rogers Floral Thongs // Keds

Camp Wedding

Dress: French Connection via New for the Night (navy version here) // Boots: owned since high school // Nails: OPI // Earrings: off the streets of New York (similar style here) // Bracelets: David Yurman, Gold Bangle  // Ring: passed down from my Grandmother

This past weekend we traveled to Hunt, TX for a wedding at Camp Waldemar. The bride & groom met at our wedding! The ceremony and cocktail hour were outside so long sleeves were a must. Since I wore my long sleeved Milly dress (for the umpteenth time) to the rehearsal dinner, I needed a change. Enter New for the Night! This was my second rental and I couldn't have been happier.
