Breaking The Rules

Shirt: Old Navy (similar here) // Jeans: J Brand (similar here) // Booties: c.jane // Earrings: Kendra Scott // Sunglasses: Ray-Ban // Necklaces: Stella & Dot, Max & Chloe // Bracelets: J.Crew, Stella & Dot // Lips: stila Fiore // Nails: OPI Charged Up Cherry

I definitely take more fashion risks since I started blogging. I use to strictly abide by the "no white after Labor Day or before Easter" fashion rule. I've since thrown in that proverbial towel. Rules were made to be broken, right?

Last day to enter the Stella & Dot giveaway! Don't miss your chance, enter now!

Two of Hearts

Last week, I posted on Instagram a date night outfit wearing this J.Crew Factory heart blouse and these leather shorts. My fashionable friend Shaun commented that she had the same blouse and I jumped at the chance to showcase her style.  Shaun has enviable hair styling skills and a killer wardrobe. She rocked the heart blouse on the streets of Austin. The shredded jeans give her city chic look the perfect amount of edge!

Shaun: Jeans: J Brand // Blazer: Smythe (similar here) // Flats: DVF // Bracelets: Juicy CoutureLoren Hope // Watch: Michael Kors // Headband: J.Crew

I found this never been worn black vest in my closet and decided today was the day! Never mind that Scott said I looked super 80's, ha! It's amazing how a pair of shoes can change an outfit. I felt uber short and conservative in black flats to work. Switched to a pair of sexy heels for happy hour and watch out!

These Boots Were Made For Walking

Dress: Sheridan French (last season, check out similar styles here and here) // Boots: from highschool // Belt: J.Crew (on sale!) // Nails: OPI Charged Up Cherry // Lips: stila Fiore // Earrings: Dogeared (similar here) // Bracelet: Stella & Dot (old, love this one too) //Necklace: Stella & Dot c/o (Have you entered to win yet?)

We spent the weekend at the Dailey Ranch with our friends the Seiders. We may have missed the BBQ Cook Off  but that didn't stop us from having our own celebration in South Texas. I love the versatility of this Sheridan French Claire dress. It easily transitions from the pool to the office to the ranch. I wore it this winter with opaque brown tights and heels. This weekend I threw it on with my boots and was ready to ro-de-o!

Stella & Dot + Giveaway

Stella & Dot is known for their great selection of fashionable and affordable jewelry.  I got the cult favorite Renegade bracelet for Christmas and hardly a day goes by that I don't wear it (as seen here and here).  My first piece of Stella & Dot were these Garden Party chandelier earrings. They are perfect summer statement earrings! Most recently, I was gifted the On The Mark necklace.  This dainty gold necklace is the perfect layering piece.  As a Pi Phi, I especially love the arrow motif!

Top: DVF // Necklaces: Stella & Dot, Anthropologie

I've teamed up today with Stella & Dot Independent Stylist Jessica DeFord to give one lucky reader their own On The Mark necklace! This giveaway runs thru Thursday at midnight. Winners will be announced here on Friday.

Shop the full collection here! Good luck and thanks for reading!

Desk Updates

I've admired Monika Hibbs home office since I first saw her featured on Glitter Guide. I love the clean white work space. It inspired me to take some of the knickknacks (nice word for clutter) off my desk.

Floating shelves are aesthetically appealing and still keep the things I love in view. I searched Ikea, Pottery Barn, and Restoration Baby for some simple white shelves to no avail. Brackets were a deal breaker for me. Luckily, Scott whipped up a pair of shelves for me over the weekend.

I also took this as an opportunity to clear off my pin board and start anew. I hung up my Minted "Sunday Beach" banner I made at Alt Summit along with some inspirational Fresh American pins and Caravan Shoppe print. I kept the birth announcements as seen here. My grandparents framed wedding invitation is hanging to the right.

Little Luxuries: Sugar Paper Desk Calendar (I bought 50% off at local stationary store PH Design Shop) // Anthropologie Monogrammed Mug (moonlights as a pencil holder) // Kate Spade Iphone Cover

Christmas in February

Earlier this month, I received a belated Christmas check in the mail from my grandmother. Needless to say, it was a fun surprise and I went shopping :) I went back to Nordstrom's for this Milly striped knit dress. I tried it on a couple weeks ago but wasn't willing to pay the price. This time it was 40% off!

With Houston Tidbits' Jenny Murphy. Image courtesy of Tootsies.

With the always affable Rachel Duncan of Tootsies.

With Rebekah Gullo of Fashion and a Fellow.

I wore it 3 times in 1 week! First, to my mom's birthday dinner in California. Next, to work with opaque tights and flat boots. Then changed into booties for Tootsies' Love's In Fashion event. Finally Saturday, I paired it with a black blazer and Tory Burch suede heels for a night on the town. It's a great transitional piece!

Everything Old Is New Again

This weekend I ventured down 290 to the Cypress Outlets to check out the President's Day sales. I had one particular item on my must-have list - this J.Crew Factory lobster sweater. I'm wearing it with my yellow skinny jeans now and picked up some yellow shorts for the summer. While I was shopping, I noticed J.Crew Factory had LOTS of J.Crew items from last year (at a fraction of the price). If you missed out on a must-have, you may find your second chance at J.Crew Factory.

Everything Old is New Again
Colorblock Stripe Boatneck Tee // Classic Button Down in Old Barn (last seen here) // Crewneck Cardigan in Watercolor Floral // Strapless Cocktail Dress (aka Barbie) // Pleated Shift Dress (also comes in neon rose and navy) // Cotton Colorblock Dress

Use code PRESDAY for an additional 30% off!

In other news, Emily sent me this photo of Robert Redford as Jeremiah Johnson. The beard, the could very well be my husband! Scott said it was the best compliment he's received in years :)

California Girl

This weekend we did a mother/daughter trip to California to celebrate my mom's birthday. We stayed at the Rosewood SandHill Resort in Menlo Park. The weather was perfect - cool with sunny blue skies. Layering was key to stay comfortable. I, of course, left my coat hanging in Houston so picked up this field jacket at the Stanford Mall.

Rings: Atlantic Pacific for Bauble Bar // Bracelet: Stella & Dot Renegade, Heart passed down from my mom // Clutch: J.Crew Factory (love this color block one) // Nails: OPI "Mod About You"

Tops: J.Crew Perfect Shirt (old, love the gingham ones) & Cashmere Sweater (similar here) // Bottoms: J.Crew Toothpick Jeans (old, similar here) // Booties: C.Jane // Sunglasses: Ray-Ban // Necklace: Forever 21

I felt a little like a mint Easter egg in this outfit but found the colors refreshing. It's hard to dress in  dark winter colors in such beautiful surroundings. I winterized the outfit with suede booties and a suede clutch. Switch these out with sandals and a rattan clutch and I'm ready for Spring!

Charmed Circle

Gina Cartwright of Cakewalk Style Shop fame is also the designer behind Charmed Circle, a jewelry line known for its clean, modern aesthetic and signature charm necklaces. Charmed Circle exploded on the scene after Henri Bendel picked up the line at Open See, their casting call for emerging designers.

My favorite pieces in the line are these whimsical charm necklaces. Think bird cages that open, fancy chandeliers, and anything but ordinary lockets. Just in time for Valentine's Day, this envelope charm contains a love letter! Engrave it with your personal message.

Now you see it, now you don't! With a quick flick, this necklace becomes a piece of moving art. You can see why the "I Adore You" necklace is one of Charmed Circle's best sellers. If this sentimental message is too sweet, try the "WTF" version!

Gina's latest collection of leather link necklaces are currently being photographed by Marie Claire and Elle! I saw the bracelet version in-store and couldn't help but think how cute they would be for the upcoming Rodeo!

Charmed Circle is available locally at Cakewalk Style Shop or shop the full collection online!

Shop Talk: Cakewalk Style Shop

We first met Cakewalk Style Shop on Girl Around Town's Top 10 Houston Boutiques. This weekend I finally had a chance to check it out myself. Cakewalk started as an e-boutique then opened it's brick-and-mortar shop in early December 2011. They carry a highly curated list of top brands including Current/Elliott, Equipment, Joie, Mother, and Tibi. Added Bonus? The Cakewalk team is super sweet and stylish!

Tibi Sweatshirt (in-store) // Mother Jeans (in-store) // Steve Madden Pumps (old)

This was the first time I've tried on black jeans and coated ones at that (and I call myself a fashion blogger, ha!).  The coating gives the jeans a slight sheen and this particular pair (Mother Looker in Sparkle & Purr) has added sparkle. I later tried these Current/Elliot jeggings which were a bit more my style i.e. darker and less shiny. Black jeans really go with everything. I started thinking about what I could pair them with - a slinky Tibi top for date night, an Equipment blouse to work, or as pictured to a hip concert.

Equipment Blouse  // Elizabeth and James Fur Vest  // Current/Elliott Jean Leggings // Charmed Circle Necklace

I love this all black ensemble with a subtle pop of grey. A monochromatic foundation is lengthening and slimming. This outfit is on sale in-store! The necklace is from the line Charmed Circle designed by co-owner Gina Cartwright. More on Charmed Circle later this week!

Catch Cakewalk's Flash Sale going on now!
